JLP Puts Off Conference To Focus On Local Government Elections

The governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has pushed back its annual conference from November, to February 26, 2017, a day after the first anniversary of its electoral victory in this year's general election.

Come February 25, the Andrew Holness administration is expected to come under increased scrutiny after completing its first year in office.

Currently, the ruling party has put on blinkers, with its focus set on wresting the municipal corporations from the People's National Party, which has had a stranglehold on all 13, as well as the Portmore municipality.

General secretary of the JLP, Dr Horace Chang, says the party made the decision to have its conference next February in order to "focus 100 per cent on the upcoming local government elections".

"We have all our candidates in place and we are supremely confident that our candidates will be successful. Our party has demonstrated in government that we care for the people of Jamaica, their families and their communities. In just eight months, we have done very well and are confident that the people of Jamaica will extend their support to our local government prosperity partnership," Chang said.
