The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ), says it is ready for Nominations Day activities across the island today ahead of the Local Government elections.

The director of elections, Orette Fisher, said the EOJ has decided to avoid using schools for Nomination Day activities to reduce the likelihood of disrupting classes.

He also said the public will not be affected by the activities.

The EOJ will be using 64 nomination centres across the island, which will open at 10 a.m. today and close at 2 p.m.

More than 500 candidates are expected to be nominated from 228 divisions today.

Local Government Elections are to be held on March 26.
