Mark Golding has picked up the endorsement of General Secretary of the People’s National Party Youth Organisation (PNPYO), Dexroy Martin, as word reaching The Gleaner is that 14 of the 21 delegates of the group have thrown their support behind the St Andrew South member of parliament for the presidency of the party.

“Jamaica needs a People’s National Party that is vocal, vibrant, visionary; a party grounded in a sense of duty to the uplifting of the masses of the people. A party that listens and has the people at the centre of decision-making.

“Comrade Mark Golding is the person to lead that PNP,” Martin said as he appealed to delegates to vote for the second-term MP.

The race between Golding and Lisa Hanna has been heating up as it enters into the final stretch.

The election is next week Saturday.

Hanna lodged a complaint with the PNP monitoring committee over a list of delegates the National Workers’ Union said it had going into the race.

The Gleaner understands that 65 persons are on the list, the same number when Peter Bunting, in a losing effort, challenged Dr Peter Phillips last year for the presidency.

The Gleaner further understands that the monitoring committee met midweek and the list remains unchanged going into the election.

The final list of delegates was due to be published yesterday.
