Educator Delroy Granston is expected to be the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP's) representative for St Ann South Eastern in the September 3 general election.

JLP officials confirmed late Monday afternoon that Granston, who is a lecturer at the Moneague Teachers’ College in the parish, will be nominated on Tuesday to challenge the People’s National Party incumbent Lisa Hanna.

Granston replaces Dr Ryan Simpson, who has been accused of breaching coronavirus containment measures implemented by the government.

Speaking at a press conference, JLP campaign director Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange confirmed that Simpson’s ouster was related to the COVID protocols.

"That was a demonstration of how seriously we take the matter of observing regulations, rules and restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” she told journalists.

According to JLP campaign spokesperson Kamina Johnson Smith, Granston has already received the support of Dr Simpson and the wider constituency.

Maxine Simpson, who was being considered as Dr Simpson's replacement will be Granston's campaign chairman.

"We know that we have an entirely united Jamaica Labour Party team that is fired up and ready to go,” said Johnson Smith.

Hanna won the last election, polling 8,142 votes to the 4,877 cast for the JLP’s Ivan Anderson.
