More Election Day workers than voters in Hanover

LUCEA, Hanover:
There are more Election Day Workers than voters on the ground in Hanover where the People’s National Party (PNP) is trying to maintain its dominance in the nine-member parish council.
At 7 o’clock this morning, the polling stations opened their doors but there was no rush or even a trickle of voters.
And, with schools out for the day, general activities in the parish have been further reduced.
The Riverside Division in Western Hanover is one of the seats being watched in this election.
It is the only division in which the PNP has not nominated a candidate.
Former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Mayor of Lucea Lester Crooks, who reportedly failed in a last ditch bid to represent the PNP, was nominated as an Independent candidate but reportedly has the backing of PNP supporters.
If he wins the JLP’s Albert Lee, Crooks could switch to the PNP at the first meeting of the Hanover Parish Council.
