THE EDITOR, Madam:
I am not a fan of politics or the political parties, who over the decades, in my opinion, have done things that are not in the best interests of the wider public.
From education, healthcare to the security of the people, there are so many things that should have been done for the betterment and development of the country, but even after more than 50 years of being independent, Jamaica has a long way to go.
And in this time of COVID-19 pandemic, the election is called, which is not a wise thing to do. The election is constitutionally due before February 2021 – and what is more surprising is that the prime minister, before the announcement of the election, had declared that he is more concerned about rebuilding the economy instead of calling an election. There was an about-turn in a matter of days.
The situation is grave, with a possible second wave of COVID-19 upon us and the number of cases rising in double digits every day.
On nomination day, the COVID-19 protocols were not adhered to in many places – there were numerous social gatherings with droves of people. Can anyone do this COVID-19 maths?
To me, this seems to be a looming disaster on our hands.
