Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, the incumbent for St Andrew West Rural, said several voters had issues locating their polling station, marring what was otherwise a very smooth election process in the constituency.
“I find that there are some issues with voters finding out where they vote, so Electoral Office really needed to fix that because persons are not finding where they are to vote,” said Cuthbert-Flynn who is hoping for a second term.
“Persons were being sent around in circles. It has been a grave issue for me and a sore point,” she said.
She said this was the issue for persons especially in the Stony Hill Division as well as Mannings Hill Road in the Red Hills Division. The Stony Hill Division is considered a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) stronghold.
Cuthbert-Flynn is hoping to stave off a challenge from newcomer Krystal Tomlinson from the People’s National Party (PNP) for the constituency which is a swing seat.
“Voter turn out is pretty decent considering COVID and rain in some areas,” Cuthbert-Flynn said.
Tomlinson said voting was hassle-free for the most part, although she has gotten similar complaints.
“That happened to us in Lawrence Tavern, but it’s not the case across the board, very one off incident,” she said.
The aspiring Member of Parliament said she is confident of success as the gates at polling stations across the constituency shuttered.
“I’m feeling hopeful and still trusting that West Rural St Andrew, electors and my workers have done the best possible job to deliver the best possible outcome,” she said.
