People's National Party (PNP) candidate for South East St Mary, Shane Alexis, was a short while ago barred from entering the grounds of a polling station at Annotto Bay high.

Alexis, who arrived shortly after 1:30 p.m., attempted to enter through the main gate at the school, which was being manned by the police and election day workers, was blocked in his path by a group of Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters.

The PNP candidate, who maintained his cool throughout, only uttered to The Gleaner that he is hoping that all of what is happening is captured.

The irate JLP supporters have maintained that neither Alexis nor the incumbent Dr. Norman Dunn will be allowed to enter the polling station.

Shorty after, however, Alexis was seen speaking to a representative from the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ), but was left standing on the outside thereafter.

Dunn defeated Alexis by 937 votes in the 2017 bi-election in that constituency. Dunn 7319 had earlier lost to Winston Green 7324 in the 2016 polls.
