First time voter in the constituency of St Andrew East Rural O’Neil Fletcher, says injustice and corruption are the reasons behind his decision to cast his vote for the People’s National Party (PNP) today.
Fletcher, a resident of the Industrial Village community in Gordon Town, told The Gleaner that the current administration needs to go.
“I never needed to vote because all the time this party, PNP, ever a lead the country as a better administration. This is why (he voted), I see dem not running the administration (JLP) so I choose to put dem (PNP) back in that position. So it’s the first time going to 51 years of my life that I ever cast a vote. I have to get rid of the corruption and injustice of the Jamaica Labour Party," Fletcher said.
Gordon Town is one of five divisions in St. Andrew East Rural. It had a 59.50 per cent voter turnout in the 2016 General Election.
Today, the seat is contested by Joan Gordon-Webley of the People’s National Party and incumbent Juliet Holness of the Jamaica Labour Party.
In the last General Election, Holness won the Gordon Town division by 753 votes.
