Phillips Gets Three Days To Say Sorry For Holness House Comments Or Face Law Suit

George Soutar, an attorney-at-law representing Jamaica Labour Party Leader, Andrew Holness, has written to People's National Party (PNP) Campaign Director, Dr. Peter Phillips giving him three days to apologise for alleged defamatory comments against his client.

Soutar says the comments which relate to Holness' Beverly Hills home were made in the press and on the political campaign.

He says the damage has been made worse as the allegations were repeated at a PNP press conference, resulting in media coverage between February 12 and 16. 

According to the attorney, Phillips must now say sorry and give equal prominence to that of the defamatory comments.

He is also demanding that Phillips pays an agreed sum to a children's charity chosen by Holness.

"This sum is to act as a payment for the loss and damages suffered by Holness," Soutar said.

However, he says if there is no positive response, he has been authorised to file action seeking damages and other vindicatory relief as may be ordered by the court.
