A cheering and rambunctious crowd of People's National Party (PNP) supporters proudly told The Gleaner that they knew their candidate Joseph 'Bunny' Witter would not beat the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP's) Desmond McKenzie in Kingston Western, but they were backing him anyway.

"Maybe this time he will get some more (votes)," said one orange-clad young woman.

Witter emerged from the Denham Town High School a short while ago, and was mobbed by his supporters who danced and pranced with him as they dispersed all the way up North Street.

Supporters confirmed that persons had taken the day off work to support their candidate.

"You no know how it go...some beg a day....some tek a day and some a change shift fe come show we face tiday."

As supporters of the two major political tribes danced in the streets, the heavily armed security forces had a hard time keeping the traffic flowing along the busy Spanish Town Road.

An elderly female supporter of the JLP was seen hugging a PNP supporter. Why were they so chummy?

"When Portia and Desmond no give we nutten, de whole a we haffie hustle an live togedda!" said the elderly supporter.

"Yeah dem ting deh dun wid..violence eena politics a ting of de past...we no eena dat." her younger friend quipped.
