Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) standard bearer for St Andrew West Rural is upbeat that she can take home the marginal seat for the JLP on the night of February 25.

The former Jamaican Olympian says while she is new to representational politics she is not a new face to the people.

"A recognisable face is very inviting so once they realise it's Juliet Cuthbert I am welcomed into their homes no matter which side of the (political) fence and so the people have really welcomed me here." Cuthbert-Flynn says she is happy that the General Election is near, because the people of the constituency are anxious to send her to Gordon House.

Cuthbert-Flynn says the JLP will wrest the seat from incumbent Paul Buchanan of the PNP who beat the JLP's Andrew Gallimore by 237 votes in the 2011 General Election.

Members of the Tivoli Gardens Drum Corps kept the Labourites in a lively mood as they played a series of party celebratory songs.

Cuthbert-Flynn and Buchanan will be nominated at the Stony Hill Heart Academy.
