Tension in Flanker following shooting at JLP MoBay meeting

The St James community of Flanker is now tense following last night's fatal shooting of a known gangster from the area during a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) mass meeting in Sam Sharpe Square, Montego Bay.

The gangster, identified as 22-year-old Javin Campbell otherwise called 'Javincini', was said to be the leader of the break-away Uptown Sparta Gang and had been on the police radar for many years.

The second victim is Nicholas Irving alias 'Gow',‎ who the police say lived in the Flanker community of Hill Top also called West Side.

Police sources say factions in some Flanker communities have been in conflict with men from Hill Top.

‎The identity of the third victim, a bus driver from St Catherine, has not yet been ascertained.

Meanwhile, two other persons remain hospitalised with gunshot wounds.

Security personnel have intensified their presence in Flanker communities in a bid to maintain calm.

‎The crowd scampered last night when shots rang out as JLP Leader Andrew Holness approached the end of his more than hour-long presentation in the St James capital.

Holness has expressed "heartfelt sadness" at the deaths in what he called "an unspeakable incident".
