Numerous People’s National Party (PNP) supporters from North East St Elizabeth have left a meeting with senior party officials upset after the hierarchy insisted that it would be keeping Evon Redman as the candidate for the constituency in the upcoming general election.

The Comrades packed in 10 buses journeyed to the party headquarters on Old Hope Road today to demand that incumbent Raymond Pryce face the electorate on the party's ticket.

Pryce himself was called to the meeting to try to quell the angry supporters.

But at the end of the talks, the Comrades got no favourable word.

"I would not want to tell you that they were happy with the outcome," said PNP chairman Robert Pickersgill at a press conference late Monday afternoon.

Pickersgill also sought to downplay comments that this would destabilise the PNP organisation in North East St Elizabeth.

"We will deal with the matters arising as we have always done before," he said. "We are all PNP people."

However, Pickersgill has conceded that the situation will take significant efforts to resolve.

"It's going to take time and a lot of good massages," he said.

He said given the process involved in confirming a candidate, the party could not now reverse its decision to appoint Redman without a valid reason.

"If we had transgressed along the way, it would have been another matter," he said.

Earlier today, one PNP supporter told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that he and his companions were adamant that they will not allow the party to foist a candidate on the constituency.

He also warned that the Comrades will be boycotting the upcoming polls if their demands are ignored.
