People's National Party (PNP) councillor/caretaker granted bail

Errol Lamey, the People's National Party (PNP) councillor/caretaker for the Mount Salem Division in St James, has been granted bail in the sum of $1 million.

Lamey, who is 44, was granted bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court yesterday, following an application by attorney Peter Champagne.

To report to Police Station

He is to return to court on August 10 and is required to report to the Freeport Police Station in Montego Bay twice weekly.

The PNP councillor/caretaker was charged with possession of, dealing in, taking steps to export and conspiracy to export ganja.

The drug was found last month concealed in a shipment of lumber destined for the United Kingdom.

Mr. Lamey was an aspirant to succeed Gerard Mitchell who had indicated that he was not, at one time, seeking re-election.
