Despite reports of political intimidation and shootings in some constituencies in the Corporate Area, there were still many scenes of jubilation and friendly rivalry among supporters of the nation's two major political parties yesterday.

As The Gleaner news team made its way along Collie Smith Drive, in Central Kingston, supporters of the People's National Party (PNP) could be seen streamed along the roadways, some with their fists in the air.

However, bravely intertwined in the sea of orange, was a scanty group of Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters emphatically shouting their party's slogan, "Showa!"

The mood was similar along Maiden Lane, in South East St. Andrew, as both JLP and PNP supporters 'partied' together in jubilation.

"A so wi fi live. She a PNP and mi a JLP, but wi a still fren," shouted one woman as she grabbed a young girl draped in orange and gave her a big hug.

Several sections of South East St. Andrew have been marred by reports of shootings and murdersassociated with politics just days before the general election. On the weekend, some 17 persons were killed in incidents said to be politically motivated.
