All's well in St Ann - Lisa Hanna, Peter Fakhourie register amid jubilation

Thousands of supporters of the People's National Party (PNP) and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) turned out in St. Ann yesterday to cheer their respective candidates as each of them handed in their nomination papers for the August 27 general election.
Eight candidates - four each from the the JLP and the PNP -were nominated to contest the four St. Ann constituencies.
The candidates for the respective constituencies are businessman Peter Fakhourie for the JLP versus Lisa Hanna, former Miss World, who is representing the PNP in South West St. Ann.
In the North Eastern end of the parish, attorney-at-law Ernie Smith, JLP, goes up against Glenville Shaw, building con-tractor, who runs on the PNP, ticket.
In North East St. Ann, businesswoman Shahine Robinson, JLP, will do battle against attorney-at-law Oswest Senior-Smith, PNP while businessman Othneil Lawrence, JLP, will face off against the PNP's Dr. Michael Whittingham, a veterinarian, in North West St. Ann.
Green and orange outfits
From as early as daybreak, people dressed in green and orange outfits could be seen milling around in the major towns where the nominations were expected to take place.
By mid-morning, several sections of the parish were abuzz with activities with hundreds of supporters already gathered at their various constituency offices.
There was one major change in North East St. Ann, where the nomination centre had to be shifted from the St. Ann's Bay Courthouse for the first time, to the office of the returning officer on Main Street in the town.
This was done to facilitate a scheduled sitting of the St. Ann Resident Magistrate's Court.
Sub-officer at the St Ann's Bay Police Station, Inspector Angiline Minto, said there was relative calm throughout the day.
